MANILA, Philippines – For middleweight challenger Chael Sonnen, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 117 is going to be payback time.
“You gotta understand, Anderson Silva has hurt a lot of people and a couple of those guys are my friends and I don't have a lot of friends,” said the 6-foot-1 wrestler from Oregon in a UFC promotional video. “And that bothers me a lot.”
Silva, the reigning UFC middleweight champion, has not been beaten in his last 12 fights. The fight will be on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) and the setting will be at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
The 6-foot-2 champion is coming off a unanimous decision over fellow Brazilian Demian Maia in UFC 112 last April.
Sonnen, on the other hand, also garnered the judges’ nod in his UFC 109 fight with Nate Madquardt last February.
